Idli sambar!!!

They say South Indian breakfast is very healthy!

Idli is one of the healthiest and popular South Indian breakfast dishes. These are soft, light, fluffy idlis served with sambar, and coconut chutney is not only tasty but very healthy as well. Yes, in addition to being lip-smacking tasty, idlis are one of the best meals for losing those extra kilos. Adding these puffy rice idlis to your daily diet can help you lose weight faster.

Idlis have no oil
Idlis are not fried but steamed. They do not have any butter or fattening oil in them. And since there is no oil content in idli, the calorie content is also relatively low. But because idlis are made of rice and rice is high in carbs you can increase the content of urad dal or rava in the idli batter in comparison to rice.

Idlis are great for digestion and gut
Idlis are very easy to digest. This is because all the foods that are fermented are easy to digest. Fermented foods enable a better breakdown of minerals and vitamins in our body, which aids digestion. The lactic acid present in fermented foods alters the pH levels in the intestines, which is associated with good health and long life.

Idlis are rich in protein and fiber
Fiber and protein help in keeping you satiated for longer and thus stop you from binging. Fibre also promotes good digestion, which is the basic requirement for losing weight.

Sambar and weight loss
Sambar is rich in fiber protein and antioxidants. It improves digestion and thus aids weight loss. To maximise the weight loss benefits, you can add more vegetables apart from the regular ones used in making sambar.

And one of the places in Bangalore where you get those fluffy idlis, crispy vadas, and lip-smacking sambar is this iconic hotel New Modern Hotel, Vishweswarpuram, near Minerva Circle. Have been a regular to this hotel for nearly three decades, I love their soft idlis, crispy vadas, and their sambar just the same for ages!!

This hotel is popularly known as NMH and is one of the old eating joints in Bengaluru. Apparently, they started in 1959 as an eatery and have been very famous among certain great personalities including the Former PM of India Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri, and many to date love the food that they offer. They certainly have not changed much and managed to keep things as vintage as possible even in this modern-paced world. NMH has that heritage vibe and it is indeed a good place to visit and have some amazing food. Their masala dosa, poori, and badam halva are very popular!

And don’t forget to finish off the meal, with their filter coffee which is just crisp and perfect!!

    Wow! Well written, Buddy!

We add horse-tail millet instead of rice. It has less than 1/3rd of glycemic index compared to rice. It also has about 12 grams of protein!

Idly doesn’t taste different, super soft as well.
