The Cheetah

One of my most favourite animals in the savannah and I look forward to seeing them on every visit of mine and they make sure they show up every single time I get to Mara. They are such elegant and majestic beauties and are good posers too.

There is something about the Cheetah! I find them the most beautiful of all cats!!! The closer you get to them, the more you love them!

Cheetahs do not live as mating couples, and many studies have shown that females are very promiscuous. The solitary male cheetahs generally mark out a territory that overlaps several female home ranges. And they meet only while mating. Male cheetahs are very territorial and fight over territory often resulting in severe injury or death.

Female cheetahs form a home range and typically hunt alone, except when teaching their cubs how to hunt. Female home ranges will often overlap, most typically with members of the female cheetah’s family. For instance, a female cheetah’s home range may overlap with those of her sister and daughter.

Cheetahs have exceptionally keen eyesight to scan their grassland environment for signs of prey, and they love to hunt the gazelles or the Impala. They hunt during the day and their stealthy movement with the distinctive spotted coat allows them to blend easily into the tall and dry grasses, which often misleads the prey.

And it is very interesting to understand the behaviour of this beautiful cat!
